Serafín Álvarez & Roc Jiménez de Cisneros are two artists based in Barcelona who collaborate on audiovisual art projects. Their work explores surreal and speculative themes, combining vivid imagery with asymmetric beats shaped by the interplay of video game technology and real-time sound synthesis. Their projects blend the familiar with the extraordinary, inviting audiences to experience liminal spaces that blur the boundaries between real and imaginary worlds.
Spell
Live audiovisual performance, 2024
Spell is a live audiovisual performance that introduces an imaginary world populated by objects that feel both familiar and strange at the same time. A lysergic universe in which time, space and matter dissolve in a mixture of absurdity and magic.
Spell introduces a network of object-actors that collide in a vortex of weird material reality in which things grow and shrink unexpectedly, they stretch and contract in bizarre ways, either because they are not entirely what they appear to be (pencils, hearts, hammers, bananas, lightbulbs) or because they are trapped in a sort of nonplace that is well beyond our physics. This supranatural space ditches the micro/macro dichotomy in favour of a multilayered approach to being – sometimes creepy, sometimes transformative.
